Patents in the Orangerie of the Domaine départemental de Sceaux
To coincide with the temporary exhibition Roues Libres, la grande histoire du vélo – Freewheels, the Great Cycling Story, which opened in Sceaux on 21 June, seven original patent sketches from the 19th century are brought together and presented to the public for the first time.
The draisienne, Louis-Guillaume Perreaux's high-speed velocipede and the advanced women's velocipede known as the amazon bicycle are just some of the items selected to help retrace the development of the bicycle over nearly two centuries.
Based on the velocipedes, grand-bi and tricycles that are on display in the historic Orangerie on the estate, the exhibition focuses on three themes: cycle innovation, its historical and cultural context, and its technical development, as illustrated by various models and patents.
From 21 June to 31 December at the Orangerie of the Domaine départemental de Sceaux
